I saw this comment on a post today:
"Wait you guys think some imaginary guy named God made life and the galaxies and planets? You don't believe the REAL science behind how we were created?"
My response:
"I like how you use the term "Real Science." Which version of "real science" do you believe? Which doctrine? If you believe in the Big Bang, which version do you subscribe to? Do you believe in the singularity as many "real scientists" do? Or do you belong to the other group that has proposed that the singularity violates the laws of physics and therefore the Big Bang happened at all points in the universe simultaneously, which in turn means there was no Big Bang at all? If you do, in fact, believe in the Big Bang at all then you must believe that the universe had a beginning. When was that, 13.8 billion years ago? Many "real scientists" think so. Or do you believe that there was no beginning and the universe is actually infinite as some "real scientists" are now proposing.
"Real scientists" know that spontaneous generation isn't possible. In other words, life can't just happen. Louis Pasteur proved that. "All life is from life." That isn't disputed, yet many "real scientists" contradict this proven scientific law. Life just came into being, without help...it simply evolved. We are just the product of random occurrences. How foolish. Did you know that Einstein's theory of relativity and quantum physics just don't work together? They, in fact, contradict each other. Look for yourself. The scientific world is FULL of theories, hypotheses, ideas...beliefs, not proven facts, something "real scientists" believe.
How many times have you read any scientific book, paper, journal, or article that stated at some point, "Many scientists BELIEVE..." you fill in the blank. By the same token, how many of those same documents have you read that stated, "Scientists NOW believe..." meaning they got it wrong the first time. What you claim to be "real science" simply isn't. It is the mere result of men in search of an explanation and meaning to our existence and the existence of the universe without the presence of God.
Are you yourself exploring the beginning of all things? Did you personally do the research and examine the data? Can you explain how all of existence began based on evidence that YOU found? Or are you simply going on what you are being told by "real scientists" who use "real science" to explain it all...because if you are then you have none of the actual proof that you so quickly use to disprove the existence of God.
You say you won't believe in Him until it can be proven that He is real, yet you are so quick to believe what "real science" has yet to actually prove. Mankind has a history of being arrogant in thinking that we "know" something is real and is a scientific fact, only to find later that we were dead wrong. Why is today any different? What has "real science" proven that could not be later proven wrong. What you have my dear friend is not proof, there is another word for what you have...faith. What is believing if not faith? The scientists simply have faith that what they BELIEVE is right. They haven't proven these things beyond contestation, they simply have FAITH that they are right. You have FAITH.
You put your faith in a story that "real scientists" tell you in an attempt to explain how we all got here. That faith is shared by many people who don't truly even understand the very concepts they are putting their faith into, but they have faith that what others who understand it say and are leading them in the right direction. I have faith, too. The only difference is you have faith in a story that is often wrong and must be revised, changed, corrected, and sometimes omitted completely. The story I have faith in has remained the same since the beginning. Now I don't expect this comment to suddenly change your mind about...well everything...its just something to think about.
This isn't a post fishing for "you sure showed them" comments...it's not. Don't leave those. Its simply to point out that as believers we are often pointed to as people who believe in fairy tales. People like the individual who made the original comment are quick to discredit believers as small, narrow-minded people to simply believe in something that has never been proven to exist. So their alternative is to blindly cling to theories, propositions, or problematic (often dis-proven) ideas that people have as if they are iron-clad fact.
Yet the saddest part is many of these people have little knowledge and understanding of the very concepts to which they so quickly cling. Few can tell you any detailed or insightful information about the theory for which they abandon the possibility that there just might be a God and in turn Christ's love and salvation. Yet they do so without question, armed with knowledge equivalent to a 5th grade science text book. They willingly follow simply because "science says so." So tell me Christians, do you know why you believe what you believe? Can you explain why you put your faith and hope in God? Why should someone believe what we do? What makes us right? How do we show them it's real? These are questions that you should be prepared to answer. It is our responsibility to know why we put our faith in Christ. More than that, it's important to share that faith with others. One way other other...we are all living by faith.
